From Me to You
To the cast and crew,
My story with The Wheel of Time started in the 90ties when my father got the Swedish translations of the first book from the library. He loved them, I hated them.
He kept getting each book as it got out and somehow ifound myself rereading them before reading the new one even if I still hated them. The only bright spark was Nyneave, more on her later.
It wasn’t until 95 when we moved to a bigger town that was close to Malmö and Lund that I found out there were more than the three first books; they each translated into two books in Sweden so I thought having read 6 that we were close to the end, little did I know.
It was now in The Shadow Rising I fell in love with the story, reading them, slowly, in English. The love became an obsession and I started reading the wotfaq, searching for fanart lurking on Dragon mount, Wotmania and Theoryland as they started popping up and eventually on a far smaller Wheel of time message board where I started talking, making friendships and falling on love with a man as obsessed by The Wheel of Time as I was as I was.
I had now moved abroad but the year abroad, I was meant to return home afterwards, dragged out and I never ended up moving back. Instead I got married, my matron of honour was one of those friends from the Wheel of Time community as were many of our wedding guests. We grew older had two children, separated but remained friends and the love of The Wheel of time stayed with us and has now, thanks to the tv show been passed to our children, our eldest who flew through the books during and after the first season and our youngest who lacks the focus for that many books but deeply loves the TV series. I think it’s definitely safe to say that I would not be where I am today without the world Robert Jordan gave us.
I never thought I would see a TV series made, I thought it was unfilmable but then there it was on all its glory. A cast that seemed born into the roles, gorgeous scenery and costumes and just the wonder of seeing it come to life.
Thank you Rafe, for champion this show and getting it made at all, for your enthusiasm, positivity and belief in making the unfilmable make it to our screens. My heart aches that we are now seeing this story end, here, before you were allowed to share your entire vision with us, it hurts for us as fans but absolutely breaks for you and the cast and crew.
Thank you Sharon, for the absolutely stunning costumes you have made. I have never seen the like on screen before, the detail and thought that goes into every detail is magical. Thank you for your engagement with us fans, for your love of sharing your work that has remained a highlight to us between seasons and still does. I do wanted to see more of what you were giving us and I know I speak for thousands of fans saying that.
As for your actors, you are all outstanding. The performances of Madeleine last season and Josha in this one were nothing short of extraordinary. Yet there is one especially I would like to thank.
Thank you Zoë for giving us Nynaeve. She was always my favourite having been a short pretty and younger than my age looking woman who always has to get angry to be taken seriously. I could see myself in her, her strength, stubbornness and vulnerability spoke to my soul and I got to see that brought to life because of you. So thank you for giving me Nynaeve.
From the bottom of my heart I wish this isn’t the end and that this turning of the wheel still has another thread to spin out for us. But of it is the end, you gave us something magical. Always bring that magic with you and our love. .
