Profound Effect
I was heartbroken and shocked to see that WoT had been cancelled – I’ve watched from the beginning and season 3 was breathtaking – the weaving of the characters, the maturity of the writing and performances, the richness of the story.
I have been walking a journey of reclamation in my personal life for the last decade and the episode where Rand and Moraine go into Rhuidean made me weep with recognition and resonance. Rand fighting to reclaim his lineage, struggling to hold the vastness of the experience of turn after turn of the wheel – births, deaths, passivity, aggression, success, failure. I had to pause the episodes until the tears slowed. And Moraine experiencing 1000 lives, 1000 deaths and the edge of madness that that would lead a mortal body to. Moiraine sensing Siuan’s death and the power of retribution and transformative grief. Nynaeve finally accepting the burden and exhilaration of profound power and her role in this lifetime. Siuae rebuking Elaida knowing that death was on the line and that she’d leave Moiraine. The screen went black at the end of these episodes and I simply whispered “what the fuck just happened” to myself as tears rolled. Yes, I invest myself in stories, yes, in the sanctuary of my home I allow myself to be swept up and fully feel and yes, I recognize deep eternal truths anchored in what we label as modern entertainment.
Please continue this story, continue to build this world, continue to offer examples of the complexities of the human experience – that not all hero’s are in totality good, and not all villains are devoid of good and we have all lived lives on every side of the equation.
