When I saw you were gathering letters about the Wheel of Time, I wanted to reach out. Some of you may know me now. I had never read Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series when the television show first debuted, but a friend who was a longtime fan encouraged me and many others to give it a shot. The series looked intriguing from the very first images and trailers that I saw. And as a former costume designer, I was absolutely enthralled by the costumes from the very first looks at season one, even not knowing the world or the characters.

As the series played out, I found myself making guesses about where the story might go based on the costumes. One of my favorite things is when designers across the production design team are able to hide secrets about characters, the world, the setting, the history, and more in the design, whether it’s props and sets or costumes or even music. It just speaks to me and how I designed when I was active in that profession. To my surprise, people started coming and hanging out online to see what I had to say about the costumes. They absolutely cemented and informed my love of the world, and after the first season ended, I read all of the books in one big marathon session to see if any of my wild theories were right. To my shock and pleasant surprise, some of them were. This show was made by people who may not have been long time fans, but who have embraced the setting, the characters, the story, and created something truly amazing.

I really hope that another streaming platform will pick up the Wheel of Time and give it more seasons. I’m not ready to say goodbye, not with the story unfinished as it is. But if this is goodbye, it’s been a beautiful run. All of the designers, the cast, the crew, at every level have done everything they can to give us an amazing show about amazing characters in an incredible world. They’ve brought depth and richness and made of some of the things that were left unspoken or unseen visible and integral to the production in a way that speaks to their capability, professionalism, dedication, and love of the world that they’ve created and brought forward. I had hoped, at most, to enjoy the show, and instead I’ve found new friendships and communities I never thought were out there but are now an integral part of my life. I hope we can go forward with more, but if not, we will always have each other. There are no beginnings and endings to the wheel of time, but this was a beginning, and it’s one I hope to see more of.
