Take Me Home

Take Me Home.

As a teenager, I was constantly look for a means to escape. My childhood was not the most consistent, having to make several moves from town to town, never really living in the same place for more than a year at a time. I would always seek solace from the tumultuous humdrum of life and more times than not I found that in books, specifically of the fantasy genre. I had read some of the more mainstream franchises, but for a while, I found myself wanting for something more. That stayed true up until the day a buddy opened a weathered blue paperback featuring a stalwart of a warrior, a majestic woman on a stark white horse, and a band of travelers against a moonlight sky, moving with an obvious sense of purpose. I got curious and ask him what it was and he began singing the praises of what an adventure the series was and he offered to let me borrow it when he was done. With a sense of excitement, I gladly accepted. A couple of weeks later, I had it my hand and eagerly began poring over the contents. I was immediately enraptured with the characters and the adventures therein. Thus began my journey with The Wheel of Time.

I couldn’t get enough of this literary masterpiece. Every time I opened each tome, I was transported to what we fans lovingly call “Randland.” The sight of the White Tower glistening behind the Shining Walls, the smell of oosquai, the audible snap of Nynaeve tugging on her braid… I felt like I was actually walking and participating in every bit of action and dialogue. Looking back on my initial ventures, I realized that I had found what I was looking for for so long… a place where I could call my own and would always be there for me. The Wheel of Time universe was the one constant I had when no one else was there. It gave me a place to escape. “Randland” became my mind’s home. Years later, when I learned that we were getting a legitimate adaptation, I was elated that I would get to visually experience this world in a way that would transport me back to Randland in a way that it did in my younger years. And I was able to do so for 3 glorious seasons…

When the news came that the show had been canceled, I was heartbroken. I felt just as I had when I learned my family would have to pack up and move again, just when I was getting comfortable. The figurative rug had been pulled out from under me. To whichever studio contemplates resurrecting this epic, I implore you to consider not only the financials of the situation but also the joy it brings to many of the fans who have come to love these characters and this story as much as I have, the connections made from enjoying it with friends and loved ones, and the mental escape it provides to so many thousands.

In summary, I’ve loved this show from the start just as much as I’ve loved the books. It’s given me consistency and structure in times when I had none. Take me home; I miss it so much.

Most sincerely,

Michael G.

P.s. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention just how great of a job the entire Wheel of Time team did in the three season we have thus far. A major thank you to everyone from Rafe Judkins to Josha Stradkowski, Rosamund Pike to Lorne Balfe, Sharon Gilham to Jack Ferman, and particularly Marcus Rutherford for bringing my favorite Wolfbrother to life. Much love to you all.
