I first picked up the Eye of the World over two decades ago. I’ve loved Wheel of Time ever since but I never dreamed of seeing it be adapted for TV, let alone with the perfect cast, stunning visuals, and writing that brought all of the things I loved about the books to life. Watching the show made me feel like I was experiencing the memory of the books that lived in my head – a story that had grown up a little and sanded off its rough edges from the series that I knew as a kid, but which still had all of the heart and wonder that I fell in love with. As a writer, I understand the challenges of adapting any story into a different medium, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you for having the boldness to make the changes that were needed to tell this story on our screens. This is not only my favorite fantasy show but one of the most brilliant adaptations I’ve ever seen, and no matter whether we get new seasons or whether I will just have to continue my yearly reWOTches, believe me, I will be taking notes!

A few more thank yous…

Thank you to Rosamund for doing justice to Moiraine Damodred, my favorite bi sorceress of all time. I latched on to her many years before I figured out my own sexuality, so to see her and Siuan’s relationship brought to life and given the depth that it always deserved has meant more than words can say.

The other half of that thank you must, of course, go to Sophie for being the perfect Amyrlin since day 1. The cunning and bravery and sacrifice she has displayed throughout her journey made me appreciate a character I already loved in ways I never even expected. Her speech in the finale moved me more than any other scene on TV in years. I believe in my heart that in another turning of the Wheel, a happy ending awaits the daughter of the river and her love.

To all of the Emond’s Field Five – thank you for bringing our village kids to life with so much love. It has been wonderful to introduce friends and family to this quintet and watch all of them find their own fave to fall in love with – because there are so many to choose from!

Thank you to Zoë for bringing Nynaeve’s fierceness and devotion perfectly to life – brighter than any raging sun.

Thank you to Madeleine for embodying all of Egwene’s strength and conviction – that’s MY Flame of Tar Valon, always.

Thank you to Marcus for so brilliantly understanding the pain and bravery under Perrin’s quiet steadfastness – no blacksmith has ever been more deserving of peace.

Thank you to Donal for giving us all of Mat’s wit without losing any of the complexity underneath – the gambler, the rogue, but most importantly, the friend who will rush into a burning building for you.

Last but certainly not least, thank you to Josha for showing us so much of my favorite side of Rand – the sheepherder struggling to hold on to his gentle heart as he fights for a better world. You are the Dragon we all needed on our screens.

In an incredibly difficult year where I have struggled to find purpose and things to look forward to, this show has been my Light in a time when much seemed lost to the Dark. Thank you to everyone who touched it in any way along its journey. I hope with all of my heart that we will get to see more of it, but no matter what happens, this has been a gift that I will never forget.
