The Meaning of Strength
At 14, reading the Wheel of Time was the first time I encountered strong female characters who were strong within themselves instead of needing to be more masculine or do more masculine things to be taken seriously. I was full of anger (like Nynaeve), desire for new skills (like Egwene), and wanted to be regal (like Moiraine). Lots of teens have a hard time, but I had found a world that I could inhabit and through their stories learned that there are many ways to be strong.
I carried this world with me through many tough times and still come back to it as an adult. I’ve been a WoT fan for 25 years now and have waited so long to see these characters on screen. Knowing how complex and layered the story is (and accounting for the rules of the One Power) I knew adapting the series would be monumental. The writing, acting, costumes, locations, sets, everything has been so incredible! Few shows have had so much against them and come through it so successfully!
Cancelling it now, when the characters are at such critical turning points in their stories, is the worst decision Amazon could have made. And, if they won’t reconsider, another studio should take on this challenge. This story deserves to be told in full and everyone involved deserves to be recognized for what they’ve accomplished! This story is for everyone and goes beyond just good vs evil. It’s about always moving forward, despite what the Wheel throws at you. It’s about standing up again when the Wheel tries to grind you down. It’s about how nobody who achieves greatness does it alone. There is only one Dragon Reborn, but he cannot defeat the Dark One alone.
