“I can be a knight, even a king. When I started, this was not possible.” It is these words by Daniel Henney that sum up to me the immense strength of the WoT series. The show, like none other, dared to challenge the western centric view we have on Fantasy. The show dared the most diverse cast of characters and actors I have experienced in 30 years of watching Fantasy.

The show has given an evocative image to characters we need more of in entertainment. We need the grey, the multi-coloured, the iridescent and the eccentric. We deserve more than the always trodden paths that feel so familiar.
I absolutely love that. I love the naturalness with which Maksim says “It‘s the blood of the only man I ever loved”. I adore that Egwene stands with Rand to protect him even from himself without the two of them staying a couple. I love the unsparing bravery of Moiraine and Perrin sacrificing everything for what is right. “We need the ones who act when the flames are highest.”, because we live in a time when we hardly remember what that feels like.

I do believe that WoT offered role models for so many children and teens out there who don’t see themselves or someone looking like them on TV. This to me is the great strength of the series, and I want to say, what makes it unique in fantasy.
