Few parts of The Wheel of Time’s story resonate as strongly as when the people of The Two Rivers come together in times of fear and hardship and sing of Manetheren. Though they do not remember the once-proud nation of which they sing, its heritage is passed from generation to generation in songs that provide a sense of community and comfort.
Our fan rendition of this powerful song comes from an idea by @mostlybree – One half of speculative romance author, Kit Rocha – and is magnificently executed by Lezbi Nerdy, WoT content creator extraordinaire.
Reaching out to friends and fellow creators, she even discovered a server for Wheel of Time fans who like to sing acapella! Such is the depth and diversity of our fandom, there was no shortage of volunteers.
Taking on both audio and video editing herself was a herculean task, but she knew what she wanted to deliver. Speaking to the SaveWOT communications team, Lezbi Nerdy said:
“The editing was harder than I thought it would be, I’m not sure what I was thinking! I thought it would be easy to do, but it took much more time than I thought. But I knew the vibe I was going for – trying to capture the spirit of that moment that gave us all goosebumps in episode 7.
My hope is that when people see it, they remember that feeling that moment in the show gave them – my sister, when we watched that episode together, she said it made her feel powerful, like she could fight. I’m hoping for that sort of feeling. I know some people are resigned to just accepting this, and the hope I have is that this will motivate people to not just accept this as “inevitable”.
“This show, these characters, this story is worth fighting for.”
