Visuals, Intrigue, and Social Media Buzz
I came to The Wheel of Time in 2025, after season three was released. I immediately recommended the series to friends. When I found out season 4 was cancelled, I felt devastated. Production of the series had finally hit its stride! Season three (episode four in particular) was spectacular and thoughtful.
This show has one of the BEST blends of practical and digital effects on the small screen, in my opinion. The visuals are stunning and inventive — I keep thinking about Moiraine floating in a hoop, seeing a thousand, thousand futures. The team has distinguished The Wheel of Time from others in its category through its use of aesthetics. This attention to world-building, coupled with blood-pumping action sequences, gives the show a wide audience appeal.
Additionally, I read some of the books many years ago (not all fourteen). I found them difficult to get through, at times, mainly because of the portrayal of women and the gender-based hatred that Ais Sedia faced. One of the changes that I actually really liked in this series was that the Aes Sedai were hated and suspected by many, NOT because of their gender, but because of their power. The casting within the White Tower was excellent, and I was literally thrilled by the fleshed-out ambitions and motivations of the people therein, priming the tower for the climactic betrayal of Suan Sanche. I thought that was a very smart move on the part of the writers.
When I recommended The Wheel of Time to my friend, he was convinced to give it a try based on clips from social media. Now, we have so much fun sharing it with other friends. Amazon has a sleeper hit (if a show that ranks highly in viewership can be called a “sleeper”). What I mean to say is that the viewership of this show will likely grow over time. It is an investment in storytelling that will take time, money, and talent. But why take on long-form stories if you don’t intend to make them… long?
With each turn of the wheel, more loyal viewers find this gem. Whatever implied contract between viewers and producers, I ask you to let this story expand into shape. It has already found the mold — and a passionate fanbase. Let us see how far it will go, together! <3
