Wheel of Time SAVEWOT Campaign passes HUGE milestone
SaveWOT.com petition passes 200k signatures!
The heartfelt SaveWOT campaign reached a significant milestone in the early hours of this morning as the online petition passed two-hundred thousand signatories, achieved in less than two months since the campaign launched. The milestone was reached a few days after the successful fan-organized WoTCon event where Wheel of Time Costume Designer and SaveWOT supporter, Sharon Gilham was the guest of honour.
One campaign organiser said:
“We have worked so hard to get the message out to studios that this is a show that should be saved! 200,000 signatures on our petition is an incredible show of support, and it should show Sony, Amazon and any interested studios that there’s a huge fan base desperate for more Wheel of Time.”
The SaveWOT campaign has been independently orchestrated by a global collective of fans who want to showcase everything that is good about the show and the hugely successful books it is based on. Rather than use a 3rd party site that encourages viral sharing such as change.org, the fan-designed website, savewot.com, has become a hub for the community to come together and share their own efforts to save the show. From fan-funded billboards around the world, a flyover of Culver City studios and community re-watches livestreamed for all to join, there have been many grand gestures within the movement. There are also smaller -but no less dedicated- activities such as postcard campaigns, the Sew for WOT crafting challenge, song parodies and fervent renditions of songs from the show, including choirs teaming up to serenade studio employees.
It’s fair to say that this is a community-led campaign with one goal: to save the show loved by so many. The SaveWOT campaign is built on word of mouth through dedicated fans expressing a shared love of an epic story and a determination not to let a beautiful piece of art die before its time.
